Illgeal Building Collapse
Thane, April 10: In a better late than never case, the Thane Municipal Corporation (TMC) has learnt a lesson after the illegal building collapse in Thane on April 4. They have now started a 24 hour call centre to take complaints about 'unauthorised constructions in the city' on Wednesday.

Although TMC regularly receives such complaints, they said that the setting-up of the call centre will help them deal with such complaints effectively.

The 24 hour call centre will take 'stock of the action taken on the complaints from the citizens of the unauthorised constructions and co-ordinate with the civic officials'. The complaints will be recorded and sent to the concerned section. A compliance report will have to be given to the Commissioner withing 3 days after the complaint is verified.

According to officials the death toll in seven-storey building collapse in Thane has touched 74. The building collapse took place on April 4. Many people were injured in the incident. Three officials have been suspended for dereliction of duties, allowing unauthorised building to flourish, in spite of having no clearance for occupancy. Police registered a case of culpable homicide not amounting to murder against the two builders, Jamil Qureshi and Salim Shaikh.
