Jalandhar, April 1: How can the government guarantee safety for common man when police personnel are not secure in the country?

The killing of a on-duty police officer on highway in Punjab on Sunday (March 31) night has shocked the nation.

Assistant sub-inspector of the Punjab police Gurdev Singh was been shot dead by unknown assailants on the Jalandhar-Ludhiana highway.

Police sources told media that Singh was shot at when he chased a white Verna car for not stopping when he asked it to at around midnight on Sunday.

Unidentified people in the car then allegedly started shooting at the cops. A bullet hit Singh in the chest, and he died on the spot, according to reports.

There were four to five men in the car, say the police.

However, police are yet to identify the killers and the car used for the crime.

The incident came close on the heels of another incident when assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) Ravinder Pal Singh Mangat on traffic duty during a VIP visit was allegedly assaulted by a truck driver and died later.
