UPA enjoys absolute majority; will complete term: Narayanasamy

SP and BSP had already given their letters of support to the UPA and the government has "therefore absolute majority to remain in office for its full five year term," the minister of state in PMO told reporters here.
He also said DMK, which pulled out of UPA over the Sri Lankan Tamils issue, at its executive committee meeting declared it would not let communal parties to come to power. Narayanasamy claimed the UPA would win the 2014 Parliamentary polls and would form the government.
To a question about the demands by AIADMK and DMK that India should not take part in the Commonwealth heads of government meeting to be held in Colombo in November, he said Prime Minister Manmohan Singh would talk to the External Affairs Minister and also other members of the CHOGM.
He expressed confidence that Singh would 'take a right decision'. On demands by student groups here for separate Tamil Eelam in Sri Lanka, he said, "We should bear in mind as to what situation would emerge if Pakistan makes a plea for a separate country in the context of Jammu and Kashmir issue."
He said the Centre had always been in support of the welfare of Sri Lankan Tamils and listed out various measures such as construction of 50,000 houses for displaced people.
"UPA Government at the Centre has always been showing humane approach to the Tamils in that country," he said. He also alleged that police remained silent spectators during recent attacks on his office and the famous Aurobindo Ashram here and said he would press Union Home Minister Sushilkumar Shinde for judicial probe into the incidents.
Maintaining that the attacks and incidents of burning of images of Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and UPA Chairperson Sonia Gandhi were carried out by anti-social elements under the garb of championing the Sri Lankan Tamils cause, he charged Chief Minister N Rangasamy with instigating them.
On the recent controversial CBI raid on the residence of DMK treasurer M K Stalin, he said the search was launched in 19 places following alleged tax evasion in the import of cars and the government would never interfere at any point of time in the independent functioning of the investigating agency.
