After Ram Singh, another prisoner in Tihar commits suicide

Now, a 30-year-old woman, an accused of a kidnapping case, killed self on Thursday, March 14. According to sources, the woman was found hanging inside her cell and was rushed to Deen Dayal Upadhyay hospital in Delhi. However, the woman prisoner passed away on the way to the hospital.
Tihar authorities informed that two other inmates were also there inside the cell where the woman was found hanging. But her two prison inmates were out for work at the time when the incident happened.
35-year-old Ram Singh, one of the prime accused of infamous Delhi gang-rape case, on Monday killed self inside the jail. His postmortem report suggested that his death was due to hanging and there were no external injuries on his body.
However, Ram Singh's family members and lawyer cried foul play asserting that he was killed. They claimed that Ram Singh had faced tremendous torture and was sodomised in the prison.
Recently, a report by Tihar Jail psychiatrists in the Delhi Journal of Psychiatry said that a total of 20 suicides occurred in Tihar Jail between 2001 and April 2012. All the suicide victims were pre-trial verdict inmates.
Tihar Jail is considered as a model prison. In Tihar, inmates have several facilities, including counselling, yoga classes and meditation rooms. But, the Jail is overcrowded. In India's largest prison more than 12,000 prisoners stay. The Jail is actually meant for 6,250 inmates.
