Raja Bhaiya Akhilesh Yadav
Lucknow, March 8: Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav's government in Uttar Pradesh has come under scanner after one of its party MLA has been accused of murdering a senior cop.

Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on Thursday named former Uttar Pradesh minister Raghuraj Pratap Singh alias Raja Bhaiya and four others in connection with the murder of senior police officer Zia-ul-Haq.

Will Raja Bhaiya, known for sharing close relationship with Akhilesh Yadav and his family members be arrested by CBI? Since CBI has nailed him, arrest is pertinent.

The controversial strongman Raja Bhaiya, who has several cases pending against him has become a liability for Akhilesh Yadav and Samajwadi Party (SP). But, arrest of Raja Bhaiya will also weaken chief minister's party, as Raja Bhaiya helped SP to win the last Assembly Elections in 2012 in Uttar Pradesh.

Raja Bhaiya was named in one of the four FIRs registered by CBI on the basis of complaint given by Haq's wife Parveen Azad in which the five-time Independent MLA from Kunda in Pratapgarh district figured. A ten-member CBI team also reached Kunda in Pratapgarh district where the murders took place last week.

It was still not clear, however, whether the CBI would arrest Bhaiya or even call him for questioning purpose. The Centre recently handed over the case to the CBI owing to intense political pressure from the opposition ranks.

The Samajwadi Party government in the state was accused of shielding the guilty and the opposition BSP even demanded imposition of President's Rule in the state in view of the deteriorating law and order situation.

The widow of Zia-ul-Haq had sought a CBI demand into the case and a cornered chief minister, Akhilesh Yadav not only accepted the demand but also asked the agency to probe the murders of the village head and his brother.

He was booked by the UP police for criminal conspiracy and murder, sources said.
