'Will order inquiry against ministers accused of wrongdoing'
Lucknow, March 6: Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav on Wednsday said that his government did not try to protect Raghuraj Pratap Singh alias Raja Bhaiya, the minister who resigned on Tuesday after being accused of ordering the killing of a senior police officer in his constituency Kunda.
Speaking to an English news channel, Yadav said his government Bhaiya to resign straightaway, once his name was mentioned in the FIR. There was no second thought in accepting Bhaiya's resignation, the CM said. Raja Bhaiya is sought under eight different criminal cases.

It may be mentioned that the Samajwadi Party government led by Akhilesh Yadav, son of Mulayam Singh, would complete its first anniversary on March 15 but it has been accused of terribly falling short of one of its main poll promises, i.e., to improve the law and order situation in the state. Yadav said he was working on this aspect and would not overlook complaints which have been lodged against his affiliates.
The CM said inquiry would be ordered against whichever minister was accused of wrongdoing.
The slain police officer, Zia-ul-Haq, was targetted on Saturday night after he went to a village in Kunda to probe a murder case. Two of the four suspects in the killing were yet to be traced.
Raja Bhaiya was not questioned despite being charged with criminal conspiracy in the case.
Opposition parties like the BSP and Congress slammed the SP government for failing to improve the law and order situation with Mayawati even seeking President's Rule to be imposed on the state.
Zia-ul-Haq was beaten up before being shot
Uttar Pradesh police said DSP Zia-ul-Haq was beaten and dragged on the ground before being shot dead. He had severe injuries on his head and legs. The bullet used to kill Zia-ul-Haq was, however, missing. It was also not conclusive whether he was shot with own revolver, which could not be traced either.
Post-mortem reports said the police officer died of hemorrhage and shock from a bullet wound on his right chest.
The wife of the slain police officer, however, rubbished the post-mortem report and said that he was shot thrice and not once.
