Hyderabad: Techie forcefully married minor, arrested

Hyderabad, March 2: A minor girl from Moghalpura area in the old city area of Hyderabad was lucky enough to escape from a trap which was laid by her parents, family members and a techie from Sudan.

The girl fled from her house and reached Moghalpura police station where she later narrated the incident how she along with four other girls had paraded before Osama Ibrahim on Feb 21. The accused, a project engineer with a petroleum company in Khartoum in Sudan, allegedly had given Rs 1 lakh as meher (bride price) to her parents.

Based on the girl's complaint, police arrested the accused who reportedly is already married and has two children in Sudan.

The minor girl claimed that she did not even realise when her nikah (Islamic Marriage) was completed without her consent. The police also arrested the girl's father, Yousuf Patel, her aunt Mumtaz Begum and two other brokers.

The main accused reportedly told police that his friend had informed him about girls whom he could marry. The police recorded the girl's statement on video.

The girl, who was scared of returning to her house, sought help from the government. She asked for aidto continue education or at least get trained in vocational courses, so she can earn her livelihood.
