Afzal's family hasn't approached us: Tihar DG

New Delhi, Feb 22: Two weeks after the hanging of Parliament attack convict,

, his family said that they have not yet approached the prison authorities to pray at his grave though the government has made the offer for his close relatives'.

"We have not received any letter from Guru's family in this regard," said Vimla Mehra, Director General of Tihar Prisons. Although the government said that it will allow Guru's close relatives to visit his grave, it was rejected this offer.

The family has been demanding that the body Guru's body is returned to them.Asked whether jail authorities will allow family members to visit Guru's grave if they make a request, Mehra refrained from giving a direct reply, saying "the government is considering it."

Justifying the delay in informing the family, Mehra said,"It was a job assigned to us and we followed the official procedure to execute it."

Afzal Guru was hanged at Tihar jail on February 9.The entire operation was kept under wraps.His body was buried inside the jail premises. Even the family did not know about it. The letter informing them about it reached much later.
