Bangalore, Feb 20: Eleven trade unions, which have been protesting against several issues including price rise, FDI in retail and many others, received a lukewarm response regarding their call of a 48-hour Bharat Bandh beginning from Wednesday, Feb 20.

While the nation-wide strike crippled normal life in some states such as Kerala, Orissa, Uttar Pradesh, in other states the bandh has become a flop show.

While buses, autos were plying in cities of Karnataka, West Bengal, Maharashtra; Delhi, Noida witnessed a complete shutdown on Wednesday. Meanwhile, violence was reported in Noida where many vehicles and factories were put on fire.

Several factory owners registered legal complaints saying that some assailants had barged into their factories and looted their properties. Supporters of the bandh pelted stones on public who had tried to go to their workplaces despite strike.

The bandh has been called by 11 trade union bodies. The Bandh has been called against privatisation, outsourcing, violation of labour laws, and price rise.

Some of the trade unions, who are participating in the strike, are - Bharatiya Mazdoor Sangh (BMS), All India Trade Union Congress (AITUC), All India United Trade Union Centre (AIUTUC), Centre of Indian Trade Unions (CITU), Indian National Trade Union Congress (INTUC) and many others.
