Amitabh Bachchan cheers Afzal Guru's hanging
Bollywood megastar Amitabh Bachchan welcomed the news. The 70-year-old veteran said that it was important to follow law and order.
"The law should be followed and respected by one and all. Whatever has been done, it has been done according to the law - whoever the accused may be - you, me or someone else," the 70-year-old told reporters at his office.
"The country investigated the matter completely, and only then they have acted as per law," he added.Earlier, Union home secretary RK Singh confirmed the hanging of Guru. Singh said that Guru was hanged at 8 am on Saturday morning in Delhi's Tihar Jail.
"He was hanged at 8 o' clock this morning. The President rejected his petition on February 3." Singh added Guru's family back in Kashmir were informed about his execution.
"They (Tihar jail authorities) intimated the family through Speed Post, registered post and the DG (director general of Jammu and Kashmir Police) has been told to check with the family whether they got it or not," Singh told reporters in New Delhi.
However, family denied getting any prior information about the execution.Curfew was imposed in various parts of the state following hanging of the Parliament attack accused Afzal Guru in Delhi's Tihar jail.
A report in Hindustan Times say, "Clashes have broken out in the Badgav, hometown of 2001 Parliament attack plotter Afzal Guru, in Sopore."
Media reports say the national highway has also been closed.
Moreover, heavy deplyoment of paramilitary forces was witnessed across Valley. Official sources say armed forces are mostly deployed in sensitive areas like the old city in Srinagar as well as Sopore which is the hometown of Guru.
