Singer Mika detained by Customs for carrying Rs. 6.36 lakh

Media reports say, Customs detained the singer as he was carrying Rs. 3 lakh and $12,000 (worth Rs. 6.36 lakh), an amount more than the permissible limit. Mika was returning back from Bangkok.
Rule book says, a passenger can only carry foreign currency worth $3,000 in cash and $7,000 in traveller's cheque.
"A passenger is allowed to carry only Rs7,500 in cash. Also, the money needs to be declared while boarding the flight," said an official of Customs department.
"Mika Singh was found carrying Rs 3 lakh in Indian currency as well as $12,000 which is way higher than the amont permitted sans declaration. This is a clear violation of the FEMA rules," added the official.
Singer was also found with excess liquor bottles in his possession.
"When he was intercepted, the liquor bottles seemed to be in excess. So while questioning about the bottles the officials went on to question him about the currency and his answers didn't seem convincing. He claimed to be carrying $5,000 and one lakh rupees but his body language gave away his secret. And when searched, excess cash was found," added the official.
Mika seems to be in love with controversy. The singer was earlier in news in 2006 following a lip-locking episode with Bollywood actor Rakhi Sawant at her birthday party. He is brother of singer Daler Mehndi. Mika has sang several hit songs including "Mauja hi Mauja" from film "Jab We Met".
