The unnecessary requirement of travelling abroad for visa re-stamping can be easily and safely eliminated. This would provide relief and certainty of reentry into the US after international travel and be beneficial to US employers, the economy and H-1B holders.
The practice of re-issuance of non-immigrant visa within the United States was well established until it was discontinued by the Department of State in 2004.
The petition seeks to highlight the futility of a beneficiary, already on a non-immigrant visa, being required to travel abroad for re-issuance of the same, even though the two principal concerns for its discontinuance, "increased interview requirements" and "collection of biometric identifiers," have been met.
To successfully invoke the administration to review the current policy and forward it to policy experts within the administration for an official response, the petition requires hundred thousand (100,000) online signatures on or before Feb 23, 2013.
The petition can be signed by anyone who is 13 years and above, irrespective of his/her geographical location and nationality, by simply logging on to this link, entering your first and last name and your email id, logging on to the link received on your email, and clicking on to the petition.
