New Delhi, Jan 23: Opposition Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) saw leadership change at the national level after Rajnath Singh officially took over as President of the party on Wednesday, Jan 23. Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi congratulated Singh on becoming BJP national party chief for a third term. Modi wrote on Twitter that under Singh's leadership the party will gain.

"I called up Shri Rajnath Singh ji & congratulated him. He brings with him vast experience of both organisation & administration," Modi wrote on Twitter.

"Rajnath Singh ji served as Agriculture Minister in Atal ji's Govt. He has always been associated with the farmers. BJP will gain from this," Modi added.

On Tuesday night, Nitin Gadkari resigned from President's post to make way for Rajnath Singh.

Till Tuesday, political circuit was abuzz that Gadkari will be re-elected as BJP President for the second time in a row. However, Gadkari has been charged with several corruption cases. In the wake of corruption cases against Gadkari, many top leaders in BJP expressed their displeasure of Gadkari getting the President post once again.

"I want to wait until the enquiry is complete. I decided that until I am proved innocent, I will not seek a second term. The party must look for a new leader and I will support and cooperate with whoever is chosen by the party. I am convinced that I am not directly or indirectly involved in any act of corruption. When the enquiry is complete, I shall emerge with my image untarnished," he said in Mumbai.
