London: Missing Bangalore student found dead after 23 days
London, Jan 23: Police on Tuesday afternoon found the body of Souvik Pal, the Indian student who went missing since a New Year's Eve party on Dec 31. Pal, 18, was last seen at the event at Warehouse Project in Trafford, Greater Manchester, around 11 pm and was reported missing by his roommate on Jan 1. [Update: Confusion over Bangalore student's mysterious death in London]
Pal was a student of Manchester Metropolitan University and was found dead by specialist officers in Bridgewater Canal near the Old Trafford football ground in Manchester United at 2 pm. His father, Shantanu Pal, had travelled from his home in Bangalore to help the police in finding his son.

Police, however, ruled out that there was any suspicion accompanying Pal's death and a file would be submitted to the coroner shortly. Detective Chief Inspector Colin Larkin expressed condolences for the Pal family and said they would help the family in all possible ways.
A number of appeals had been made to trace Pal including the use of digital advertising hoardings at one of Manchester United's home football matches against Liverpool. Pal had trained for a part-time job of serving refreshments at the stadium and also served during the home team's match against West Bromwich Albion on Dec 29.
The student's mother had lambasted the Indian government a few days ago, alleging that the latter showed a lackadaisical attitude towards the family's plight.
