Thief forgets to steal, takes shelter under warm blanket

The incident occurred at Madhyamgram in West Bengal on Sunday. According to the report published in Bengali daily Ei Samay on Monday, the housewife, Pratima Modak, thought it was her daughter sleeping under the blanket.
When she pushed the person, she was shocked to see a stranger. "He was drunk and could not tell how and when he had entered the house," she said. Modak called the masons working in their house. The window grill in the first floor was opened to widen the balcony. Nobody was sleeping in that room because of the work for the last few days. But nobody thought that a thief would enter the room through that gap in the dead of night.
The daughter, Sanchari, said the room is not easily accessible to the room from the ground but what is more surprising is that the man did not fulfill the mission and just wasted the time sleeping. The Modak family found that the entire room was left in a mess but nothing was ultimately stolen. "He searched things but ultimately fell asleep after putting one of my pullovers and a blanket," Sanchari said.
But why did he fall sleep and forgot his task in hand? When asked, the man said, "I don't remember anything. May be I came here by mistake." He, however, tried to flee in between but was caught by the chasing masons. He also digested quite a few blows.
He was later handed over to the police.
The Modaks, however, were quite a rattled by the incident. "We generally sleep in that room. Now, we are sleeping in another room since work is going on. I am scared to think what could have happened had we slept there yesterday also?" Pratima asked. She said they were even feeling scared to enter the room after the incident.
