Hyderabad tense: Asaduddin Owaisi surrenders before court

Earlier, sources had informed that Asaduddin might be arrested soon for allegedly abusing the then Medak district collector. According to police officials, Asaduddin and his brother Akbaruddin had been booked.

The Owaisi brothers along with other party MLAs allegedly had protested against Anil Kumar Singhal, the then Medak collector. Mr Singhal had led the road-widening works at Mutangi village of Patancheru mandal on Apr 16 in 2005.

However, Mr Singhal had allegedly been threatened and opposed by Owaisi brothers, who had obstructed the officials from carrying out their duties alleging that a place of worship was being damaged.

Both Owaisi brothers were booked under Sections 147 (punishment for rioting), 153 A (promoting enmity between groups), 353 (assault on public servant obstructing him of discharging duties), 290 (punishment for public nuisance), 295 (deliberate acts to outrage religious feelings) and 506 (criminal intimidation) among others.

A non-bailable arrest warrant was issued against the MIM chief and his brother for failing to appear before the court for the hearing of the protest case.

Both Owaisi brothers are currently in news following a hate speech delivered by Akbaruddin, who is currently in jail facing serious charges ranging from sedition to waging war against the government

Recently, Akbaruddin was produced before a court in Medak district of Andhra Pradesh in connection with the 2005 protest case. However, the court postponed court hearing on Jan 28 when Akbaruddin's counsel informed the court about his illness.
