Man given death sentence for raping & killing 3-yr-old

, Jan 16: A Delhi fast-track court on Tuesday awarded

sentence to a 60-year-old farmhouse guard for raping and killing a minor girl. Judge Virender Bhat held Bharat Singh guilty of raping and killing the three-year-old daughter of a rickshaw-puller a couple of years ago. He termed the case as a "rarest of rare" one.

It was said that the child, who was playing outside her house at Kapashera on the outskirts of Delhi on Apr 10, 2011, lost her way while returning home and went towards the farmhouse. She was called by Singh, who was on duty alone at the farmhouse then, and raped and killed in the process.

The prosecution said Singh, after realising that the girl was dead, then dumped the body at a secluded spot. The victim's father had lodged a complaint about her missing daughter and her body was recovered two days later in the vicinity of the farmhouse.

It was said that Ram threw the body at a secluded place inside the compound for he feared workers engaged in road construction outside would have spotted him if he tried to dump it outside.
