HC holds top cops responsible for Delhi Horror, wants action

officials and held them responsible for the brutal gangrape of a 23-year-old paramedical student in the national capital on Wednesday, Jan 10. High Court said top cops were found guilty of dereliction of their duty, which led to the gangrape and murder of the girl on Dec 16, last year. Court insisted action against the top cops.

High Court on Wednesday asked the police, "Why no action has been taken against the city police commissioner, DCP (south) and joint CP (traffic) for lapses on their respective parts?"

"Don't try to save the police. Despite of us expressing our unhappiness, police have not disclosed names of its officials posted in relevant areas and PCR vans."

After special public prosecutor Dayan Krishnan claimed that the police had taken action and suspended an ACP, he faced the chief justice's wrath. "Why just an ACP suspended as per your report? Is he the only one responsible for the security lapses? Why not the DCP? Why not the police commissioner? Who is the controlling officer for Delhi Police? We are not happy with this," the chief justice said.

The court trashed the status report given in a "sealed cover" by Krishnan, saying it failed to provide names of officials deployed in the three police vans stationed on the route the bus had taken. "You can't go like this, don't try to save the officials," the bench said.
