Manchester, Jan 8: Father of the 18-year-old Indian student from Bangalore who went missing here a week ago has appealed to the witnesses to come forward after he reached the UK to help the police in tracing his son.

Souvik Pal, a student at Manchester Metropolitan University in northwest England, went missing since celebrating the New Year's Eve with his friends at a city nightclub.

Santanu Pal, father of Souvik, said he was proud of his son and would not leave the country till his son was found. While speaking to journalists at the police headquarters here, he urged anybody having any clue about Souvik's whereabouts to help the police in finding him.

He said it was a difficult time for the family back in India and particularly for Souvik's younger brother, for whom he is a role model.

Police divers, meanwhile, searched the canals in Manchester for Souvik, who was last seen at Warehouse Project club in the western part of the city around 11 pm on Dec 31. According to police descriptions, the boy is 5 feet 7 inches tall, has a slim build and an Asian look. A scar on the right side of the forehead is a distinct feature. He was last seen wearing a pale denim shirt, grey trousers and navy blue leather shoes.

Detective sources of Greater Manchester Police said they were becoming increasingly concerned about the missing student's welfare with each passing day.
