Delhi Gangrape: Protesters, police clash at India Gate again
New Delhi, Dec 27: A group of protesters and police had a clash in Delhi on Thursday, Dec 27. During the fresh protest demanding more security for women in the national capital, the protesters marched towards India Gate.
A group of 300 people, most of them were young students, defied police orders and gathered at the Nizamuddin area in South Delhi and walked towards India Gate.
The
group
was
stopped
at
a
major
crossing
nearby
by
police
barricades.
However,
the
protesters
were
stopped
at
Neela
Gumbad
on
Zakir
Hussain
Marg.
Huge
jams
were
being
reported
in
the
area.
The protestors demanded more safety for women in the capital and a faster and more effective legal process for cases of sexual assault.
This was the second round of protest as earlier the capital witnessed massive protest for five-six consecutive days. The previous protest ended with a violent note. One police constable Subhash Chand Tomar allegedly was beaten by protesters, though doctors and eyewitnesses said that he suffered a heart attack.
The protest has been ignited when the 23-year-old victim wasw taken to Singapore for further treatment. She was raped by six men and was thrown out of a moving bus. The girl, a paramedical student suffered suffered massive internal injuries. Her health fluctuated often since then. Several operations have been performed on her and surgeons have removed her gangrenous small intestine.
