2002 riots, Maya Kodnani past for Naroda in 2012 Guj poll

Naroda is perhaps the BJP's only seat where Sindhi candidates have been elected time and again since 1990. Gopaldas Bhojwani had won in 1990 and 1995 while Dr Maya Kodnani, who was recently convicted for the Naroda Patiya massacre in 2002, had been elected in 1998, 2002 and 2007.
It is learnt that Naroda has around 2.25 lakh voters and out of them, 30 per cent are Sindhis, followed by Hindi-speakers and 16,000 Patels. Wadhvani also campaigned in Kalupur cloth market near Naroda Patiya, which is dominated by Sindhi traders.
Will Maya Kodnani's conviction harm BJP's chances in this year's election in Naroda? According to some, the candidates are good as long as the party is good.
