Ahmedabad, Dec 11: Suddenly the issue of "communal and divisive" politics has taken the centrestage in the poll bound Gujarat. After Prime Minister Manmohan Singh on Sunday, Dec 9 said that minority community in Gujarat were not safe, Chief Minister Narendra Modi has hit back his opposition.

Narendra Modi has accused Prime Minister Manmohan Singh of playing the minority card and UPA Chairperson Sonia Gandhi of spreading lies. Few hours before the end of campaign for first phase of polls in Gujarat, Modi slammed Congress party and its leaders.

"What PM and Madam Sonia said has defamed Gujarat. It is injustice to Gujarat. Let's take revenge through election," Modi said.

"When the leaders had campaigned in 2007 they had raised issues which are divisive in nature. Now they are at it again. But let me warn them that like last time, Gujarat will give them a fitting reply,'' Modi said at an election rally in Patan on Monday.

Gujarat Assembly Elections 2012 will take place in two phases: First phase is slated on Dec 13 and second phase on Dec 17. The counting will take place on Dec 20, 2012. Gujarat has 182 assembly constituencies.

The campaign deadline for the first phase of polls will come to an end on Tuesday evening. Now with just few hours before campaign to first phase of polls will end, it has to be seen how Prime Minister and Sonia Gandhi will react to the charges against them?
