Chandigarh, Dec 9: The Haryana government on Sunday urged the Centre to resolve the issue of requirement of prior environmental clearance even for mining in less than five hectares area.

Forests and Environment Minister Ajay Singh Yadav has urged the Centre to resolve the issue "so that development projects do not get hampered and the work force related to mining activity does not have to suffer because of unemployment".

In separate letters to Union Mines Minister Dinsha Patel and Union Minister of State for Environment and Forests Jayanthi Natarajan, he drew their attention towards the decision, saying five lakh workers, directly or indirectly involved in brick kiln and ordinary earth mining industry in Haryana, have been rendered jobless.
