Bhopal, Dec 8: A 12-year-old boy was being swallowed by a huge crocodile in Madhya Pradesh. According to media reports, a monster-sized crocodile ate up the 12-year-old child in National Chambal Sanctuary in Madhya Pradesh's Bhind district on Thursday. The victim has been identified as Imran Khan.

Forest officers told reporters that the boy was accompanied by his father to the Sanctuary. The shocking incident happened when the boy was drinking water from the river and the huge crocodile snatched him away. The father of the boy and several onlookers tried to save the boy but their attempt went in vain as the crocodile dragged the boy out to deep water.

This is the third such incident in the area in the last five years. More than 500 crocodiles were found in the last census, officers said.

A crocodile is any species belonging to the family Crocodylidae. They are large aquatic reptiles and ambush hunters. The mugger crocodile (Crocodylus palustris) (literally "crocodile of the marsh"), also called the Indian, Indus, Persian or marsh crocodile, is found throughout the Indian subcontinent and the surrounding countries. It is one of the three crocodilians found in India, the others being the Gharial and the Saltwater crocodile.
