New Delhi, Dec 7: In another major embarrassment to Indian sports, the International Boxing Association (AIBA) on Friday suspended the Indian Amateur Boxing Federation (IABF) for allegedly manipulating the recent elections in September. It was an another blow to India in the international sporting fraternity for just a few days ago, the Indian Olympics Association was suspended by the International Olympic Committee.

The IABF had elected BJP MLA Abhishek Singh Matoria as its president in its annual general meeting with Abhay Singh Cahutala as Chairman. The body effected amendments to its constitution to accommodate Chautala by creating the post of the Chairman in a meeting that took place in Patiala. The AIBA, while confirming the decision to suspend IABF, said it would investigate the September election and try to find if there was a potential connection between the IOA President, the former IABF chairman, and the election.

The AIBA took the decision at a meeting held in Lausanne, Switzerland.
