SC asks K'taka to release Cauvery water to TN

The court order comes at a time when Karnataka government is facing assembly session and the ruling BJP is battling divisions in the party which may have a bearing on the Cauvery dispute.

Last week, Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa had visited Bangalore for talks with her Karnataka counterpart Jagadish Shettar but had to return disappointed as Karnataka refused to release 30 tmcft of Cauvery water as demanded by the TN.
