International Olympic Committee suspends IOA

New Delhi, Dec 4: The International Olympic Committee (IOC) has suspended the Indian Olympic Association (IOA) as it is sticking to the government's

for the election of IOA office-bearers tomorrow, reports say.

Though IOC is yet to announce the decision, the Associated Press quoted two officials who claimed knowledge of the matter as saying today that IOA has been suspended for ignoring IOC's guidelines on how the elections should be conducted.

IOA was specifically asked to follow the Olympic Charter and not allow the Indian government to interfere in the election process. Apparently, the failure of IOA to comply with IOC's guidelines has led to the harsh action.

It means that IOA will no longer get financial assistance from IOC. Indian athletes will not be permitted to participate in IOC-organised events including the Olympic Games under the tricolour.
