IndiGo Flight
New Delhi, Nov 8: A man suddenly turned violent and threatened the other passengers on a Mumbai-Delhi IndiGo flight yesterday, triggering off a mid-air scare.

Murtaleen Sheikh, 40, who was seating in seat no 28A first mumbled something in a menacing manner to the aged lady sitting in 29A. Then Sheikh slapped an airhostess and waving his mobile phone warned the other passengers "sabko dekh loonga" before making a move towards the cockpit.

However, the crew with the help of the male passengers overpowered him. Female passengers and children were asked to go to the front of the plane and a food trolley was used to block the aisle.

By then, the pilot had alerted the airport authorities here that Flight 6E 196 needs to be given priority while landing. The Central Industrial Security Force took Sheikh into custody soon after the plane touched down.

IndiGo said, "This unruly passenger started screaming and also physically assaulted a crew member. The passenger also got violent with co-passengers and tried to access the forward of the aircraft. IndiGo crew made appropriate announcements and deployed security measures to block access to the front of the aircraft and the front galley. An untoward conduct of this nature is of serious concern to us. We will take all necessary action to address this violation."

Police have booked Sheikh for criminal intimidation, assault and outraging the modesty of a woman. Officials of the Intelligence Bureau grilled Sheikh, reports say.

The accused is a dealer of second hand cars. He resides at Babu Tansen Chawl in Virar, a suburb of Mumbai.
