SEF Dandia
California, Nov 3: Sankara Eye Foundation (SEF), that has been engaged in efforts to eradicate curable blindness, recently organised a series of Dandiya programmes in the San Francisco Bay Area to raise funds for its upcoming as well as existing hospitals.

While the first event of SEF Dandia 2012 was held at Pleasonton on Oct 19, Santa Clara Convention Center was the venue for the other events on Oct 20, 26 and 27. Participants in all the four events throughly enjoyed themselves.

SEF Dandia 2012 was a fundraiser for several projects. In Jan 2013, the construction of the 10th SEF hospital will start in Kanpur, Uttar Pradesh. SEF is hopeful that the hospital will built within a year.

Since there is increasing demand for specialised eye care, SEF has been trying to expand its hospitals in Gujarat and Andhra Pradesh particularly the one at Guntur. New hospitals will also be opened by SEF so that the rural blind can benefit.

Sankara Eye hospital, Punjab was inaugurated in March this year. At the Kanpur hospital, SEF will set up 200 beds in order to conduct 20,000 free eye surgeries per year. Besides, SEF is planning to acquire lands for its next four hospitals.
