CBI probe:Digvijay Singh cornered; Can Sonia Gandhi help him?
Can Congress President Sonia Gandhi help Digvijay who always defends Mrs Gandhi and other party leaders whenever charges and allegations are hurled on them?
Digvijay, the former Chief Minister of Madhya Pradesh, has been accused of disrupting laws while granting permission to construct a shopping mall at a residential area in Indore.
Economic Offences Wing (EOW) in Madhya Pradesh earlier in Apr 2011 had overruled all allegations against the former CM saying that there were no evidence against Singh. The former CM, during his tenure in the state in 2002, allegedly had bent rules while allowing the constructor to build Treasure Island mall in Indore.
Mahesh Garg, the petitioner who accused Singh for the first time in 2008, was disappointed with EOW and moved the High Court. Mr Garg said that while guidelines had allowed a part of the land to be used for commercial use, the entire plot of 2.5 lakh square feet had been cleared for a shopping mall following Singh's instruction, said the petitioner.
The petitioner has finally seen a hope of ray as High Court has ordered CBI to complete their investigation against Singh within six months.
Following the High Court's order, the senior Congress leader on Friday, Oct 19 tweeted, "I welcome the decision ... must investigate and punish me if I have done any thing wrong."
