K'taka Cong leaders to apprise Sonia about state issues

Sonia-Gandhi
Mangalore, Oct 18: Congress leaders will apprise party president Sonia Gandhi here on Thursday about issues like fishermen's woes and release of Cauvery water to Tamil Nadu.

The Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC) will ask five workers to express their views on the way the party is performing in the state and its handling of the coastal issues. State unit president G Parameshwara and Leader of the Opposition Siddaramaiah will speak to Sonia Gandhi on issues of state importance. The workers, including a woman Zilla Parishad member, will focus on problems they face.

The Congress chief will address the workers at Nehru Maidan and then will visit Kudroli Sri Gokarnanatha temple to inaugurate its centenary celebrations and the Dasara festival. Also, Sonia's address rally will see about 200 college students taking oath as Congress Seva Dal workers.

A Congress Seva Dal leader from the state said the students hail from families of Congress workers. He said the induction of young blood in the Dal will help increase the appeal of politics to the younger generation.

The one-day visit of the Congress chief, the second in six months, is aimed at galvanising party leaders and members for next year's assembly election in the state.
