Trinamool MP raises Ma, Maati, Manush slogan at UN

Derek O'Brien raised his party's Ma, Maati, Manush slogan at the United Nations General Assembly in New York on Monday. The Rajya Sabha MP, also a renowned quiz master, spoke about the slogan coined by his party chief

while speaking at the second committee session of the assembly.

The TMC told the delegates that his party stresses the humanistic philosophy of Ma, Maati, Manush, which signifies an equilibrium of Mother Earth that nurtures the human beings and the latter who are central to all developmental efforts. O'Brien's emphasis during his speech was on why poverty eradication should be made the focus of the UN's development-oriented activities.

He said the UN development system should be strongly rooted in its main focus area, which is to be only development-oriented, if it wants to taste global success. He added that poverty eradication remained a crucial priority for the developing countries and it should form the core issue in the world body's efforts towards development.

The TMC leader was a part of the group of visiting MPs from India.
