PIL appeals HC to monitor probe into Khurshids' trust

Lucknow, Oct 16: A PIL was filed in the Allahabad High Court's Lucknow bench seeking registration of an FIR and urging the court to monitor the probe being carried out by the economic offences wing (EOW) into the alleged corruption indulged in by Dr Zakir Hussain Memorial Trust run by the Union Law Minister Salman Khurshid and his wife Louise. The petition will be heard on Wednesday, it was learnt.

A local RTI activist, Nutan Thakur, who filed the PIL, sought registration of FIR by the state government through principal secretary, home and the EOW on the basis of a primary investigation report submitted by the Viklang Kalyan directorate and the social welfare department of UP on the alleged misappropriation of funds and forgery in dealing with them.

The PIL also spoke about a sting operation by a news channel which had presented various important facts.

The petitioner also requested the court to supervise the case. Six parties including the UP government, the EOW, the central government through the social justice ministry, principal secretary, social welfare, a television channel and the Khurshids' trust have been made respondents in the PIL.
