Cauvery:Karnataka, Tamil Nadu tensed, crucial SC order today

Led by Chief Minister Jagadish Shettar, Karnataka government on Oct 8 snubbed Supreme Court order and stopped Cauvery water supply to its neighbouring state Tamil Nadu.
Shettar government dared all and claimed that they would not release water as the move would affect its farmers. Citing Karnataka's move, Jayalalithaa government filed contempt case against them.
Karnataka and its capital Bangalore observed state-wide bandh on Oct 6 protesting against the apex court's order to release 9,000 cusecs of Cauvery water daily to Tamil Nadu till Oct 15.
The Shettar government once again on Thursday, Oct 11 refused Cauvery Monitoring Committee (CMC) proposal to release water from Oct 16 to Oct 31.
Reacting to the CMC order, president of the Cauvery Hitarakshana Samiti G Madegowda, said, "The committee has no right to give any direction. We will not allow the government to release water at any cost."
