Financial woes push KFA employee's wife to kill self

New Delhi, Oct 4: The wife of an employee of the Kingfisher Airlines (KFA), Sushmita Chakravarty, committed suicide here owing to intense financial crisis caused by non-payment of salaries for seven months. Police found a suicide note written in Bengali wherein Sushmita, 45, had cited financial woes to be the cause behind her drastic step.

Her husband, Manas Chakravarty, worked as an engineer with the grounded airline. The couple has a son.

The KFA authorities said they could only pay one month's salary at this moment and the talks between them and the employees also reportedly failed. The government also said that the airliner must get permission from the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) if it wanted to resume operations.

The DGCA, raising a concern over the non-payment of salaries to the KFA employees, asked the Vijay Mallya-owned airliner to submit plans before resuming services.
