Mumbai, Sept 28: Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) chief Sharad Pawar on Friday said that his party has accepted the resignation of Ajit Pawar as the deputy Chief Minister of Maharashtra. The senior Pawar's words put an end to the buzz over power tussle within the Pawar family in the wake of the irrigation scam that rocked Maharashtra politics.

The NCP chief met Maharashtra Chief Minister Prithviraj Chavan and also discussed the issue with party legislators later in the day. He later told the media that some of the members of the NCP gave him in writing to consider Ajit Pawar's resignation.

Sharad Pawar said Ajit, who is his nephew, wants to join the government only after his name is cleared and that his party agreed to honour Ajit's decision. He also said that his party would intimate the CM, who agreed to bring out a white paper on irrigation. According to Pawar, all misgivings would be dispelled as soon as the white paper comes out.

The NCP chief also added that he had asked all those ministers who had quit over the scam to withdraw resignation and rejoin duties. The senior Pawar also took a dig at the media saying the latter must have felt disappointed for there was no Pawar versus Pawar as rumours were doing the rounds.
