CP Joshi is India's new railway minister
Joshi gets the additional charge of Railways till cabinet reshuffle takes place in coming days. Sources say cabinet reshuffle is likely to take place by next week.
After Railway Minister Mukul Roy of Trinamool Congress (TMC), along with his five party colleagues tendered his resignation at the Centre on Friday, Railway portfolio was lying vacant. Ministry of Railways is considered to be one of most important portfolios as millions of Indians depend on trains to commute on a regular basis.
Thus, Indian Railways gets a new minister, the third in a year, after Dinesh Trivedi vacated his post for Mukul Roy in March.
A reshuffle of the Union Council of Ministers appears high on the cards after TMC pulled out of UPA government.
Earlier there were reports that Rural Development Minister Jairam Ramesh would be made the next Railway Minister of India.
