Khartoum, Sep 14: Mob protesting a film 'dishonouring' Muslim sentiments attacked the German and British embassies here on Friday. The protesters opened fire and tore down German flag and raised an Islamist banner.

The protest over the controversial film has been spreading across from North Africa to South-east Asia and even led to the killing of the US Ambassador to Libya earlier this week. In places like Cairo and Sanaa, protesters clashed with police and sources said protesters were also moving in hordes towards the US Embassy in Khartoum.

UK Foreign Office sources said the Sudanese police were present while protesters gathered outside the UK embassy but could not confirm whether the demonstration was about the controversial film, a BBC report said.

In Egypt, President Mohammed Morsi called for peaceful protest and the US embassy was fortified with barbed wire and concrete while police vehicles were patrolling the vicinity.

It was alo learnt that similar protests erupted in parts of India, Indonesia and Malaysia on Friday.
