US praises Indo-Pak peace deal

"We strongly support increasing contact at the high level between Pakistan and India. We think the trip was a good thing, and we were pleased to see the visa progress that they had made, which supports progress that they had made in the past on economic issues," the State Department spokesperson Victoria Nuland told reporters at her daily news conference here on Tuesday, Sept 11.
This is very much in line with the Secretary (of State's) New Silk Road vision that connections in the whole neighbourhood will grow stronger, so that prosperity will grow for everyone, Nuland said in response to a question.
"Obviously, there's more work to do, but whenever we see the Indian side, whenever we see the Pakistani side, we offer support for their efforts to talk to each other, because it's in the interest of not only for those two countries but the whole region," the spokesperson said.
Responding to a question, the US official said that the Secretary of State Hillary Clinton was following the trip.
