Kudankulam protest
Chennai, Sept 10: Protest against Kudankulam nuclear plant has turned into a violent agitation on Monday, Sept 10 when a fisherman was killed during police firing.

The fisherman accompanied thousands of agitators who gathered around the nuclear plant showing protest against the government's decision of resuming the work at the plant.

According to sources, Vijay Kumar, the leader of the fishermen, is likely to be arrested soon. Following the day-long clash between police force and fishermen, cops opened fire to stop the anti-nuke agitators. Protesters on Monday set a house on fire.

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Jayalalithaa would meet all top officials to discuss the grave situation which created panic among the people who reside near the plant. Trying to stop police from using tear gases, many protesters threw slippers, shoes and small stones at the police force.

In dramatic visuals shown on television reports, the protesters were seen fleeing to the sea to escape the onslaught of the policemen. It has to be remembered that Sec 144 has been imposed in the area. The Inspector General of Police had also issued a warning to the protesters to disperse from the area.
