Assam: CM Tarun Gogoi says violence-mongers will be shot

has this time around issued a stern statement against the anti-social elements engaged in arson and violence. With the death toll touching 80, Gogoi has been quoted as saying, "Administration will fire at anyone who resorts to arson and violence."

With stray incidents of violence still being reported from volatile districts of Kokrajhar and Chirang, 5 more people were killed on Saturday.

Inspector General of Police (Bodoland Territorial Areas District) SN Singh said that the deaths were informed by locals and the dead bodies were found from a paddy field in Choudhuripara near Mangolian Bazar in the district. The deceased are yet to be identified.

The IGP added, "Suspected miscreants must have killed the five people during the day and hidden their bodies in a paddy field in the area."

Following the violence and subsequent deaths, a curfew has been imposed in the area. The ethnic violence in Assam has claimed at least 80 lives following tensions among indigenous Bodo tribals and Muslim settlers. Thousands of people had to flee from their homes and are living in relief camps.
