Shooting outside Empire State Building: 2 killed, 8 injured

Around 9 am local time (1300 GMT), the Fire Department was alerted by a caller that tourists were under fire at 34th Street and Fifth Avenue. According to eyewitnesses, they heard the sound of gunfire and then their vehicles were blocked by the police as a precautionary measure.
Fifth Avenue was partially closed as police and Federal agencies combed the area near the Empire State Building that is one of the most popular tourist attractions in the United States. The 1,453-feet-tall skyscraper has two observation decks on the top.
