15 injured in Kolkata amusement park accident

, Aug 21: Fifteen people, including many children, were injured on Tuesday when the connecting slide of a 'swirl ride' gave way in Nicco Park, a reputed amusement park at Salt Lake in Kolkata. Deputy Commissioner, Headquarters, of Bidhannagar Commissionerate Subrata Mukherjee said six of the injured were minor students and were admitted to Calcutta Heart Research Centre.

Relatives of the injured later ransacked part of the park, alleging that the park authorities did not care for the treatment of the injured and accused them of allowing too many people in the ride. The incident occurred around 4.30 pm. Those who were enjoying the ride fell on each other after the slide collapsed, leading to the injuries. Police were probing the case. They were also investigating whether the rides were properly maintained or not.
