Driver dies of heart attack before giving liver to Vilasrao

Vilasrao Deshmukh
Chennai, Aug 14: There is no respite for Vilasrao Deshmukh yet. The donor, who earlier was supposed to give liver and kidney to the former Maharashtra Chief Minister, died of heart attack.

The 31-year-old school van driver died at 2:45 am on Tuesday, Aug 14. According to sources, the donor passed away before the transplantation.

Doctors, who have been attending Vilasrao for last one week, said, "We went back and forth, but there was nothing we could do. We took caution with every step because the van driver's accident was a medico-legal case. It delayed the process a little and we lost the patient."

Global Hospitals doctors had flagged a "super ultra emergency case" for the 67-year-old Union Minister for Heavy Industries.

Meanwhile, sources said that Mr Vilasrao's family members, who earlier had agreed to take the organs from the driver, later refused to do the same as police were late to come to the hospital.

The driver was reportedly hit by an ambulance and got serious head injuries on Saturday, Aug 11. He was declared brain dead on Monday.
