London Olympics: A 'flaming' end to closing ceremony

Olympic village
London, Aug 13: With the London Olympics 2012 coming to an end in a glittering ceremony, things were not glitch free when a massive blaze was reported. The fire was described as the biggest to have struck London in recent times. More than 200 firefighters had to be deployed to douse the fire.

The London Fire Brigade was informed of the blaze around 1.15 pm in a recycling centre in Dagenham, east London. 40 engines were deployed to control the fire. No damages or casualties were reported.

The incident happened close to the Olympic park a while away from the star studded closing ceremony. London Fire Commissioner Ron Dobson said, "We have not seen a fire of this size in London for several years. It's certainly a dramatic end to the Olympics for the London Fire Brigade. That said though, we are still able to attend incidents across the capital and the fire cover we are providing at the Olympic venues has not been affected."

The reason for the blaze is yet to be ascertained.
