Airline employee commits suicide, Haryana minister blamed

Gurgaon, Aug 5: 23-year-old Geetika Sharma, a former air hostess with the MDLR Airlines committed suicide by hanging herself in her house on Saturday, Aug 4. Following the news of her death, her family members targeted Haryana minister Gopal Kanda who is the Chairman of the MDLR Airlines.

Mr Kanda was Gitika's boss and has been accused of harassing the girl pressurising her to join back his airlines which she had quit earlier. Police sources informed that a suicide not has been found in her apartment and she reportedly blamed Mr Kanda.

Geetika's brother Gaurav Sharma also claimed that she succumbed to the tremendous pressure created by Mr Kanda on her. According to Gaurav, Mr Kanda used to come to their apartment frequently and tortured her mentally and physically forcing Geetika to re-join MDLR Airlines.

Accusing Mr Kanda, Gaurav also asserted, "When the airline's operation was suspended, Gopal Kanda offered her another job. She refused that offer and joined Emirates in Dubai. He then wrote a letter to Emirates stating that she had a bad character, which lead to her termination."

Haryana police started an investigation in the suicide case and they are also probing Mr Kanda's alleged role in the case. A case of abetment to suicide case has been filed against Mr Kanda on Sunday.

Mr Kanda is Haryana Minister of State for Urban Local Bodies. MDLR Airlines was based in Gurgaon, Haryana. It operated scheduled domestic services. It suspended its operations in 2009.
