Chidambaram back to familiar grounds as Finance Minister?

New Delhi, Jul 31: Reports have emerged on a possible cabinet reshuffle by Prime Minister Manmohan Singh as early as this week. Sources have been quoted as saying that

is likely to take over the Finance Ministry. The reshuffle was facilitated after

moved out to become the President of India leaving the post of Union Finance Minister vacant.

There are also strong rumours doing the rounds that the Home Ministry currently handled by Chidambaram will be taken care of Power Minister Sushil Kumar Shinde. Shinde is also tipped to be the strong favourite as the Leader of the House in Lok Sabha. Meanwhile, there were requests from various Congress MLAs to UPA chairperson Sonia Gandhi to consider Rahul Gandhi for this post.

With the voices in support of Rahul Gandhi growing louder, his supporters want him to join an important post in the government. But the Gandhi scion has still not committed to any of the demands.

With a minor cabinet overhaul expected this weekend, a major overhaul is on the cards probably after the Monsoon session ends. The Monsoon session starts on Aug 8.
