Suburban services in Mumbai affected by motormen's strike

, Jul 20: With over a 100 motormen launching a flash

here in the afternoon, suburban services on the Western Railway line were badly affected today.

Most of the local trains were delayed after the motormen struck work. Though the commuters were informed about this through the public address system, people were still seen thronging Churchgate, Dadar and other important stations in the evening.

The motormen are demanding better facilities and job security. They also stress that assistant motormen should be appointed in order to lessen their workload.

Western Railway officials have already initiated talks with the motormen and deployed those who are yet to join the strike. However, some trains have been cancelled due to lack of adequate staff.
