'Indian politics is Rahul Gandhi's family business'

New Delhi, Jul 19:

faced several criticism soon after his announcement that he will play a "pro-active" role in Indian politics especially in UPA government.

leader Balbir Punj was one of the critics who hurled many questions against the young Gandhi scion.

Slamming the General Secretary of the All India Congress Committee (AICC), Mr Punj claimed that he (Rahul) has been "calling the shots" without any responsibilities.

The BJP leader on Thursday, Jul 19 said, "It is a family business. He already is active, all what may happen is his nomenclature may change from general secretary to something else."

"He is calling the shots without having any responsibility. If he takes a formal position, maybe he will be responsible," added Punj.

Meanwhile, another BJP leader Nirmala Sitharaman criticised Congress stating, "It matters little who is going to be where. All we can say is it is their business. There is no inner party democracy in Congress."

While casting his vote for Pranab Mukherjee for the presidential poll in the Parliament, Rahul declared that he will play more "pro-active role in the party and the government." He also said, "The decision has been taken, the timing is upto the leadership."

Rahul's announcement came just a day after Sonia Gandhi's comment that "no one", not even she herself, can take any decision on behalf of him. Citing both Rahul and Sonia's statements, it seems that both of them slightly differed in their opinion on taking "a final decision".

While Sonia showed full confidence on the young Gandhi scion, Rahul still wants to wait for the final nod from the party high command.

Sonia earlier on Wednesday stated, "No one can take a decision on his behalf. He has to take a decision."

However, while declaring his decision, Rahul Gandhi stated, "The decision depends on my two bosses - the Congress president Sonia Gandhi and Prime Minister Manmohan Singh."

Speculations over Rahul's latent role have already been started doing the round. While many claimed that Rahul would be given the defence portfolio, many stated that he may be given finance.

Meanwhile, sources informed that a cabinet reshuffle is expected to be held between Jul 26 to Aug 8. Now it would be interesting to see that which portfolio would be given to Rahul if he joins Manmohan Singh's Cabinet.
