Andhra Pradesh High Court dismisses Jagan's bail plea

YS Jaganmohan Reddy
Hyderabad, Jul 4: The Andhra Pradesh High Court today dismissed the bail plea of YS Jaganmohan Reddy in his disproportionate assets case.

Justice Samudrala Govindarajulu's order is a huge setback for the Kadapa MP as he will have to remain behind bars for the time being. Jagan was taken into custody by the Central Bureau of Investigation on May 27. Since then he has been lodged in the Chanchalguda Jail near here.

His counsel Ram Jethmalani claimed that Jagan's arrest was politically motivated but the CBI counsel Ashok Bhan pointed out that the agency was still probing various financial irregularities committed by the 39-year-old. Bhan stressed that granting bail to Jagan at this stage may affect the ongoing investigations.

Yesterday the CBI filed a supplementary chargesheet against the accused. Incidentally the Enforcement Directorate told a local CBI court on Monday that they want to record his statement in the wealth case but only as a suspect.
